Central Virginia Contradances

dancers
"Club Contras" is Virginia's only recurring alternative-music contra dance scene often called "techno contras". Events are scheduled at various times and locations around Virginia. For the latest info, check this space or better yet, get on the email list or like "Club Contras" on Facebook.

This is high-energy community dancing with a cool dance club atmosphere and cutting-edge music (live band or DJ B-Ham) that goes well beyond the traditional jigs and reels for extra energy, but with the same community feel and inclusiveness that is the foundation of contra dancing. DJ music is carefully edited and remixed for contra dancing, borrowing from various genres like top 40, modern electronica, house, disco, retro pop, classic rock ... even remixes of traditional tunes. You'll experience club lighting including black lights, and rich sound with extra bass. Dress comfortably for vigorous dancing! Blacklight-reactive clothing (especially white) is definitely suggested.

The dances are easy to learn and loads of fun. No dance experience or partner is required.

Upcoming Dances:
Mon., Feb. 13 - 7 pm - Harrisonburg (DJ B-Ham & Brian Hamshar calling)
Mon., Mar. 13 - 7 pm - Harrisonburg (DJ B-Ham & Brian Hamshar calling)
(both part of the regular Monday night Harrisonburg contra dance)

DJ B-Ham (Brian Hamshar) is ASCAP/BMI licensed to play copyrighted music for dances.
